With great pleasure, we announce that Kairali has been successful in inviting a renowned Kathakali artist to Perth. Dr. Haripriya Nambudiri will render a solo Kathakali performance, on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 PM. The venue is Don Russell Performing Arts Centre, Thornlie.
This is the first time that Kathakali is presented by Kairali, and I am not aware of any previous instance when some other organisation brought it to Perth. This is a rare opportunity for us to witness this wonderful art form from the Great State of Kerala, where we are all proud to be from. Please support this venture by buying the tickets and spreading the word. As an art form that is appreciated in the Western world, we need not restrict the publicity to Malayalees.
Haripriya will also conduct a lecture demonstration at the Rostrata Family Centre on October 26 at 2:00 PM, where she will describe some aspects of Kathakali, explain the meaning of some of the mudras, and answer questions.
